FAQ
What organisms can AcquaDecode detect from water?
AcquaDecode can detect fish, amphibians, macroinvertebrates, aquatic plants and microorganisms — any organism that sheds DNA into the water column.
How much water is needed per sample?
Typically one to two litres of water per sample station, collected using the included filtration kit. The exact volume depends on water turbidity and target species
Does eDNA detection work in turbid or polluted water?
Yes. AcquaDecode has been tested in a range of water conditions, including turbid rivers and impacted water bodies. Sample volume and filtration parameters may be adjusted accordingly
How does AcquaDecode differ from FloraDecode?
FloraDecode identifies plant species from tissue samples collected in the field. AcquaDecode detects aquatic species from water samples using environmental DNA — no organism capture is required.
Is AcquaDecode suitable for marine environments?
AcquaDecode is currently optimised for freshwater environments. Marine deployment protocols are under development as part of our ongoing pilot programme.
